"What motivates me to be kind?

My grandchildren do it daily. They are thoughtful and kind, which is so refreshing today. I hope that I have set good examples for them. I am a 67 year old mother of three and grandmother of 9. I have recently been diagnosed with 3 brain aneurysms, two of which cannot be repaired and one, which has been repaired successfully. I value each day, each moment, and am determined to not waste a single opportunity to bring a smile to someone else. I find this group so inspiring!! Thank you Goshin."

It makes me smile to read of all the kind things that are going on and I thought it was about time that I joined in. I've been increasing the number of random acts of kindness that I do and I like using this site for inspiration." -- Allison

"The common idea in all of my expectations of the martial arts industry is that we have to make the martial arts about fighting the good fight. The ‘good fight’ is the fight to evolve not as warriors, but as human beings. The ‘good fight’ is to increase our ability to feel empathy for others, to feel compassion, love, kindness, forgiveness, and to nurture more connection –and less disconnection --in the world. The common theme in all of this is that the highest level of education the martial arts should provide has little or nothing to do with kicking, punching, and throwing –and everything to do with mastering, as Morihei Ueshiba called it, The Art of Peace.

"When one begins to purposefully perform acts of kindness, the spirit changes and soon doing good deeds becomes a focal point for our life; doing good begins to be the same as feeling good. "I was fortunate to experience the importance of reaching out to people when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. People that I barely knew offered support and kindness without expecting anything in return. I had never experienced that before and it truly touched me and allowed me to see the strength and hope that seemingly small acts can provide. Today, we are bombarded with so much negativity everywhere we turn. [...] It's everyone's responsibility to help others to see a little sunshine." --mccadden

Dear Mr. Boggs,

WOW! What an amazing job your instructors did on Sunday! The
program was perfectly designed for the girls' age and abilities.

It was truly incredible to watch as the girls went from a giggling group of adolescents to an empowered group of strong young people! This troop has been together since they were 6 years old. They are like sisters and each girl is like a daughter to us moms.

We truly appreciate the boost of
confidence you have provided to our girls.

Thank you for generously donating your time, studio and wonderful
instructors for this activity.

Very truly yours,

Rhonda Parga

"Being kind costs nothing except a moment of your time. To see one small act of kindness, whatever it may be, bring a smile to someone's face is enough. I know my work mates are motivated by food, so on my way to work I buy an extra pack of biscuits and boy do they smile! I'm at the kettle making a cup of tea so I offer to make one for whoever else is standing there. It's nothing but it makes them smile and I know they will be nicer and kinder to the next person that they meet." -- Act of Kindness Doer

Here is an Act of Kindness for my body - Eating Healthy is Self Defense.

I did a 5 day challenge April 6th - April 11th

Eating protein, vegetables, and fruit every day wasnt as hard as i though it would be. I had cucumbers practically every day(which did get a little boring); however, i love fruit so eating fruit was the easiest part. My family helped out by not having dessert for a couple of days(i did see them sneaking it though). The hardest thing to avoid was chocolate. i am an absolute sucker for chocolate. All in all it was a good healthy experience.

Betty Fry said...

My Girl Scout Troop and I donated two Museum Palo Verde trees and flowers for the Kindergarten Planters at Copper Canyon Elementary School in honor of Earth Day. Go Danielle, Megan, Mahlia, Julie & Sarah---all grads of the Women's Self Defense class at Goshin Karate!

Betty said...

I bought a meal and drink for two ladies who said they were waiting to get into a women's shelter to escape an abusive relationship. While I'm not sure if their story was true or not, I feel that I did a good deed. When completing this act of kindness, I made sure that I maintained the two arms length distance from the ladies and I just happened to know the owners of the restaurant so I was in a safe environment. I kept my guard up at all times. I don't recommend anybody talking to strangers---I just happened upon these women at the right place and time...otherwise I wouldn't have provided assistance.

"Kindness is an inner desire that makes us want to do good things even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy of our life to do them. When we do good things from this inner desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say, want and do." -- Emmanuel Swedenborg

Thanks You to my Friends.
In the quest to create a gentler, more loving world, kindness is the easiest tool we can use. Though it is easy to overlook opportunities to be kind, our lives are replete with situations in which we can be helpful, considerate, thoughtful, and friendly to family, friends and associates, as well as strangers. The touching, selfless acts of kindness that have the most profoundly uplifting effects are often the simplest: a word of praise, a gentle touch, a helping hand, a gesture of courtesy, or a smile. Such small kindnesses represent an unconditional, unrestricted form of love that we are free to give or withhold at will. When you give the gift of kindness, whether in the form of assistance, concern, or friendliness, your actions create a beacon of happiness and hope that warms people’s hearts.
The components of kindness are compassion, respect, and generosity. Put simply, kindness is the conscious act of engaging others in a positive way without asking whether those individuals deserve to be treated kindly. All living beings thrive on kindness. A single, sincere compliment can turn a person’s entire world around. Holding a door or sending a card or letter to someone that recently had surgery can inspire others to practice politeness and make already kind individuals feel good about their efforts. Smiling at people you meet-even those who make you feel like frowning-can turn a dreary encounter into a delightful one, for both of you. Every kind act has a positive influence on the individual who has performed said act as well as on the recipient, regardless of whether the act is acknowledged. Kindness brings about more kindness and slowly but surely takes a positive toll on humanity.
Weaving the thread of kindness into your everyday life can be as easy as choosing to offer a hearty “Good morning” and “Good night” to your friends or neighbors, a stranger on the street, or the grocery store clerk. When you commit a kind act, you are momentarily disconnected from your ego and bonded with the individual who has benefited from your kindness. Being fully present in each moment of your life facilitates kindness as it increases your awareness of the people around you. You’ll discover that each act of kindness you engage in makes the world, in some small way, a better place.
May 5th 2009 – I had Thyroid Surgery and many of you full of kindness made my day one I will never forget. It was your actions and your part in my day and in my life that I will not forget and I will strive to give to others just as you gave to me. Thank you for Your Thought and Prayers.
It is my wish that we all be connected by our hearts, our love, our hope, and our humanity. Just know I am glad I am connected with you!

"I went to visit my favorite aunt and uncle the other day. My uncle has been terribly sick and is facing some surgery on his lung next week. I wanted to take him something handmade as a gift, but couldn't think of much to crochet a man other than a scarf and hat. Of course, it is too hot for that at the moment, so I crocheted six coasters for him in different colors with smiley faces and a holder to keep them in. It was something I thought he could use with his drink when he was sitting by the computer. He seemed to like the gift." --JuneBug

"I am sooooooooooooo thrilled to be a part of changing this world by acknowledging the good in others. The movie "Pay It Forward" made such an impact on me, how exciting to see a MR. Boggs and the Instructor at Goshin Karate & Judo Academy promoting "Acts of Kindness" Great Job!..... Let's make a better world together.

Mr. Boggs,

I just wanted to say thank you for your kindness today. Your one on one time with Jackson today did a lot for him and for me. It is not often that I get to witness a true act of kindness and today I did. Today your actions went above and beyond the call of duty and the result was a big step in the right direction for Jackson’s self confidence.

Thank you for what you do.

Sincerely,

Noel T.

"Some friends and I went to dinner at a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican resturaunt that we all like. After we arrived, an older couple about 76 came in and wanted to sit at a table that was not clean. I thought it was kinda' odd since there were five tables clean and ready, but then the lady said that it is their table that they always sit at. We all heard it and smiled. I lookled over at them and I smiled and they did not smile back. When we payed for our meal, we decided to pay for their meal too. I was soooo excited to do this. We told the waitress not to tell them anything and to just let them know it is taken care of. She agreed and off we went. I was laying in bed that night wondering if they liked it or if they were surprised. Then I realized it didn't matter -- what mattered was that they got something they wouldn't have expected and it hopefully warmed their hearts. It sure warmed mine." -- Karate Mom
